DIABETES: MAKING SURE
YOUR TURKEY DINNER “ADDS UP”
AVEON HEALTH

For Diabetics there is, perhaps, no more bittersweet day than Thanksgiving! Set aside all of the things that we in this nation have to be thankful for; Set aside the MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE; Set aside some of the most iconic rivalries in the NFL that are played out on that day and what you have left is one of the most abundant feasts of the whole year! And there, my friend, is where the bittersweet comes in! For while we want to gorge ourselves on all of the goodies on the table, we realize that, for the most part, we really shouldn’t indulge! To help make the difficult decisions as to what should be eaten and what shouldn’t, we have taken the time to do a numbers count so you can see just how the Carbs and Calories mount up as you enjoy this most scrumptious day!!!
ITEM AMT. CARBS CALS.
Turkey 4 oz. 0 54
Mashed Potatoes 1 Cup 35 214

Pump. Pie (9”) 1/8 Pie 40 316

To total the “Carbs” and “Calories” columns above can be a little disheartening to say the very least! The key, however, is not necessarily eliminating any of the favorites mentioned above, but, rather, trying to control portion size. The same care should also be given to preparing our plates of leftovers for the days following the holiday! Do have a Happy Thanksgiving, but be sure to do all you can do to ensure that you have a Healthy one as well!
