Flu season is starting. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) influenza is among the leading cause of death in the United States, and it’s not only something for the elderly to worry about. The flu vaccine is recommended for all individuals age 6 months and up. Prevention of the flu includes vaccination, routine hand hygiene, avoiding sick people and staying home when ill. Rapid tests can be performed in the office within the first few days for treatment with antivirals. Signs and symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills fatigue and sometimes diarrhea and vomiting.
